Family caregivers provide almost 80% of care needed by frail
elder relatives.
As part of its Older American Act Amendments of 2000, Congress enacted the National Family Caregiver Support Act to provide support to family and relative caregivers in recognition of the efforts of these heroic individuals. With assistance from the California Department of Aging, the Area Agency on Aging has developed an integrated Family Caregiver Support Program offering counseling, support groups, information and assistance to caregivers, life skills and respite care.
