Director, Community and Senior Services

Ms. Banks began her Los Angeles County employment in 1972 working for the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS). In 1980 she began employment with the Superior Court of Los Angeles County and moved through increasingly responsible positions to become the Court’s Director of Human Resources in 1999 with responsibility for the recruitment, processing, employee relations, and payroll functions of a workforce of more than 5,000 employees.

Ms. Banks joined LA County’s Community and Senior Services department as its Chief Deputy on July 30, 2003. Her duties focused on directing day-to-day operations throughout the Department. In December 2003, she became the Interim Director for the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging. In March 2004, upon the retirement of the Department’s Director, she provided oversight for the Department. In March 2005 she was named Interim Director.

In April 2006 Ms. Banks was appointed Director of Community and Senior Services. In her role as Director, she oversees a multitude of services to Los Angeles County senior citizens and victims of domestic violence. In addition, she directs the staff work of the Los Angeles County Workforce Investment Area, which offers an array of pre-employment and employment services to County residents. She is most proud that her department has been effective in providing opportunities for seniors to remain active through the senior and community centers located throughout Los Angeles County.

Ms. Banks holds a B.A. degree in Behavioral Science from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Her past affiliations were as a board member of the Mount Baldy United Way and chair of its Allocations Committee; board member of the House of Ruth, a domestic violence agency; a YWCA Woman of Achievement in the area of women’s rights.
