Two special programs are provided which offer nutritional enhancement services for the Meals Program.

Dietary Administrative Support Services (DASS) contracts with Consulting Nutritional Services to provide centralized dietary services and oversight at food production locations with Area Agency on Aging nutrition services providers. Services include compliance with menu development, food production, safety and sanitation.

Effective Nutritional Health Assessment and Networks of Care for the Elderly (ENHANCE) offers the services of registered dieticians to administer nutrition screening, counseling and intervention services, providing nutrition guidance and referrals to other services as necessary. This program is available at both congregate meal sites and in the homes of older adults. An innovative component to ENHANCE is the “Be Well” program. The “Be Well” program is a fitness and low impact exercise and weight management sessions especially designed for moderate to high risk older individuals age 60 and older with chronic conditions. A few of the outcomes include: decrease blood pressure; improve Diabetics’ blood sugar readings; and increase mobility.
