Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month &
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day:
June 15, 2017

County of Los Angeles Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services, in collaboration with the California Association of Area Agencies on Aging (C4A), California Welfare Directors Association (CWDA), the California District Attorneys Association (CDAA) and other partners, intends to raise awareness of the escalating epidemic of elder and dependent adult abuse by launching a month-long education and resource campaign during June. The month-long campaign coincides with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) celebrated annually on June 15.

We need your support! By working together we can amplify the awareness campaign here in Los Angeles County and ensure that older and dependent adults are given the respect, protection and justice they deserve.

Here are some ways you can support this campaign:

1. Post the “Don’t Miss the Signs of Abuse” poster in your offices and share it with your colleagues and community partners. The poster is available at the web link: http://wdacs.lacounty.gov/DailyNews/dont_miss_the_signs.pdf

2. Wear Purple to work on June 15 in honor of WEAAD.

3. Place the campaign logos in your email signature block during the month of June.(Click Here for instructional information).

4. Make a difference in the lives of vulnerable adults in your community by spreading the word of abuse awareness to your friends, family and neighbors.

5. Connect with WDACS and other partners during June via Twitter @LACountyWDACS and on Facebook @ www.facebook.com/LACountyWDACS and tweet/post using the hashtags #WEAAD #kNOwAbuseReportAbuse #StopElderAbuse #AreaAgencyOnAging

Thank you for your commitment to the older and dependent adult population of Los Angeles County

Warm Regards,

Cynthia Banks, Director

County of Los Angeles Kicks Off Elder And Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month

At their June 13th, 2017 meeting, the Board of Supervisors officially proclaimed Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month throughout the County of Los Angeles. In honor of this proclamation and to kick off the month long campaign, Supervisor Hahn presented scrolls to Adult Protective Services (APS) social workers, each representing their respective Regions, and to three community organizations that have collaborated closely with APS by providing vital resources for our most vulnerable constituents. APS was also on hand outside of the Hall of Administration to provide information on services available, and create awareness in the community. WDACS will be hosting various outreach activities and events at senior centers and other locations across the county. Please click here to see the complete outreach schedule for more information and details.
